Shady river, cradling the falling leaves
A flotilla of autumn
Red, orange, yellow and purple
Opening the festival
Pumpkins puff their shiny bellies
Gleaming with colorful pride
Round, oblong and squat
Grinning faces, picket fence smiles
Laughing triangle eyes
Flickering from within
Harvest corn
With its piano key kernels
Zig zagging in jumbled rows
Fall has fallen
And spills over the edge of the season
Smothering the heat
Opening it’s arms
To the crisp, chilly days
And the hearth-warmed nights of winter
"...Fall has fallen, And spills over the edge..." Wow. You have perfectly described what we see and feel all around us in late October. Thank you, Gulch-Girl.
Beautiful!
