My 3-year-old brother used to get his head stuck in the picket fence, next to our driveway. There were horses next door, and he was fascinated by them! But he wouldn’t just look through the fence. He wanted a better view, so he would stick his head between the slats. When he went to pull his head back out, his ears got stuck in the slats. He could go in, but couldn’t back out. It became a “thing.” One of my sisters would call out, “He’s got his head stuck in the fence again!” My mother would come out, and with him squirming and fussing, she would reach her fingers through the slats, and pin his ears against his head, and slide his head out. I don’t remember when he figured it out, but the family gets a good laugh at his expense, whenever the story comes up.
