It is the Eve of Easter, 1979
We draw on the hardboiled egg shells
Wax crayon designs
Imaginations bloom into colors
A yellow sun egg, a green polka dot one
One pink flower, and a blue happy face for the baby
Daddy draws fancy cartoons on his
All back into the carton, to be retrieved for baskets
And egg salad sandwiches for a week
The children sleep
Ben and I giggle, as we fill their little baskets
Kathryn will have jelly beans, chocolate malted eggs
And a sweet pink stuffed bunny
A plastic egg with hair bows, and a color book
Benjamin is too little for candy eggs, but he will have
Baby cookies, a cuddly yellow stuffed Duckie
A cardboard Peter Rabbit book, and a bath toy
I’m thinking that we may be more excited than our children!
But early morning breaks, and Kathryn tip toes into our bedroom
The sun has come up, and it is the first time
She has awakened before her baby brother
Let the fun begin!
Sweet and tender images in this piece of work, Sharon. Thank you!
Oh Sharon, that brings back so many memories for me too. Thank you and happy Easter.
